20 Mar 7 POWERFUL Words
As I was studying the word of God and going over the life and ministry of Jesus, I came across this all too familiar story in the scriptures and I wanted to use this story to encourage you and/or shed light on a few things the Lord revealed to me.
2 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Have you ever been asked to bring a dish of some sort with you to the celebration of a close friend or family member? Some may be asked to bring deserts, others an appetizer dish or a couple bags of ice and oh yeah certainly someone was always assigned the task of bringing the drinks!
This is the situation that Mary finds herself in. As I was studying this passage of scripture I realized something that I had never known before. Several scholars believe that it was the responsibility of Mary’s family to bring or supply the wine for this wedding celebration. Why they were running out could be anyone’s guess, but let’s just assume for a moment that maybe more people showed up than they had originally planned, causing the shortage of wine. When she realizes that they are running out, she panics! She runs to only One who she knows can fix the potentially embarrassing problem and pleads for His help. Jesus says, (I’m putting it into modern day vernacular), “Mom what does this situation have to do with me?” His mother doesn’t answer him; she just turns to the hired servants and says, “Whatever He says to you, do it!”
Mary says so much in just 7 powerful words. You see as a mother she knew her son like nobody else did. She knew He had unlimited resources that nobody had. She knew that He could do whatever He wanted, whenever He wanted; however He wanted! She knew this was no big deal for Him.
Realizing that He can’t turn His back on His mother’s request He turns to the hired servants and says, “Go fill up the water pots with water and bring some to the master of the ceremony!” Well you know how miraculous this ends! Six water pots or about 180 gallons later, everyone had more than enough wine and Jesus literally saved the day!
I’m not sure where you are right now. Maybe the water pots of your life are completely empty and you’re in desperate need of filling. Maybe ministry or marriage or family or business or all the above has completely drained you and your at the end of your rope, it’s the end of the line for you. You’re at a point of complete desperateness! I want to encourage you to do what Mary did…run to Jesus! Right now, run to Him! Jesus says, “You have not because you ask not”; sometimes it’s really just that simple! He will never turn His back on your desperate request for help! Allow Him and His precious Holy Spirit right now to fill you up to overflowing.
May God bless you and fill you!
All for souls!
