The ONE Question We Must All Answer

The ONE Question We Must All Answer

As I was reading the scriptures today I came across this all to familiar story and although I’ve probably read this story 100 times today I felt the Holy Spirit bring fresh revelation to me. It’s a question that is thought provoking and one that has sparked conflict for  two thousand years. It is by far, one of the most fundamentally/crucial questions that Jesus has ever asked and all of creation must give an answer! As believers Jesus has made the answer clear to us and we are to go and make the answer to this question crystal clear to others.

Matthew 16:13-17

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

You see as they were traveling down the road that day, the disciples were probably discussing a variety of issues whether it be of family or friends or ministry or future trips or maybe the day’s current events, when out of nowhere Jesus interrupts with a question that was and is no doubt an eternal game changer. It’s a question that stopped everyone in there tracks. Jesus says, “Guys what is everyone saying about Me? Who do they say I am?” Quietly, the disciples must have looked at one another before one of them hesitantly spoke up and said, “Well I heard a few weeks ago a group of guys saying they thought you may be John the Baptist returned from the dead, right then another interrupted and said yeah I heard that as well but I also heard people claiming that You may be Elijah, then several more chimed in with their answers, some say Jeremiah or one of the prophets!” As they were all talking Jesus once again interrupted and brought the all important question right to the front door of their hearts. He said guys yeah I know, I’ve heard the whispers from the crowds as well but what I really want to know is, “Who do you say that I am?” You see right here is the crux of the matter. Jesus is really not interested anymore about “what some say” instead He wants to know what they (His disciples) said! This question has been ringing loud and clear through the corridors of time! This is the only question that absolutely demands an answer. Right then, Peter speaks up and answers the question, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”

As believers, God has passed this eternal baton to us and asked us to race to the ends of the earth to deliver the answer to a lost and dying world.  All will know by the way we live, by the way love, by the way we give and by the way we go to the ends of the earth to bring others the “Good News.”  You are the Christ, the Son of the living God! JESUS SAVES!!!

“Who do you say that I am?”

We are leaving for India in less than 3 weeks so please pray about helping us reach India for Jesus!
