20 Jun Don’t EVER Lose Faith!
1 Kings 17:4
And it shall be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.
I find this story to be both encouraging as well as intriguing. I love studying Gods word, I’m absolutely fascinated with it! Through the years of study I’ve realized that God doesn’t do or say anything in His word without it having some sort of profound meaning.
In this particular case, we see God using the prophet Elijah to confront the King and proclaim a 3-½ year drought. Elijah was basically proclaiming doom on Israel’s economy. As farming and agriculture was everyone’s primary source of income, it was also the chief source of income for their great nation. Therefore by Elijah proclaiming a severe drought, he was essentially telling King Ahab their economy would be in shambles for the next 42 months. Of course, hearing that news this rebellious king was a little angry to say the least.
But God directs Elijah to go to a specific brook where he would find water and (this is where it gets interesting) where God would feed him. Actually, it’s where God commanded the “Ravens” to feed him. This is where I asked myself the question, “Why ravens?” Of all the birds God created, why did God command the ravens to feed him. Why couldn’t it be the eagles? There are a lot of scriptures that speak about the awesome eagle. Or what about a Hawk or a dove? Why did it have to be the raven?
As I researched I found out something very interesting. The ravens were the most selfish of birds. They are known to often neglect there own young! It’s here the Lord whispered to me, “Don’t ever put your trust in Kings or princes or businessmen but place your full trust in Me (Prov.3:5-7) and I will provide for your every need!” You see God will command even the most selfish of birds to feed His people. Incidentally, just because there is a physical drought in the nation doesn’t mean there has to be a physical drought for Gods people or His prophets. Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you have need of before you ever ask Him!” (Matt.6:8) He always takes care of His children. There are no issues, problems, trials or tribulations that are to big for God. The bible says, “The entire earth is the Lords and the fullness there of!” There is nothing that God cannot do!
So as you may be finding yourself walking through a famine or wilderness experience, just realize today that no matter how great the challenge or how big the need and despite the famine of finances, friends or opportunities, no matter how bleak the picture seems that’s staring you in the face, just know that this day is in the hands of God and He is in complete control! He can and will send the most unlikely of people or creatures or circumstances etc…to feed you while you trust Him and walk through this wilderness. Don’t loose hope and DON’T EVER LOSE FAITH!
Remember, the bible says, “The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof, the world and those dwell therein!” (PS. 24:1) Therefore, rest assured that there is nothing that God cannot or will not do to reach or rescue you right where you are! HE LOVES YOU WITH EVERY FIBER OF HIS SPIRITUAL BEING!
